We start our day at Mountfitchet Castle in Essex. Today this historic castle enables the visitor to travel back in time to 1066 Norman England. Explore the Castle and roam through the Norman Village hidden behind the castle walls, wander in and out of the many houses and view the scenes, smell the log fires burning and experience the ambience of an ancient bygone lifestyle. Your afternoon is the spent at the Secret Nuclear Bunker in Kelvedon Hatch. This is the biggest and deepest cold war bunker open to the public. Designed for up to 600 military and civilian personnel, possibly even the Prime Minister, their collective task being to organise the survival of the population in the awful aftermath of a nuclear war.
